Silsden Playing Fields Bowling Club 2015
Summary of Membership, Competitions and Objectives
We currently have 70 active members of whom 30 are ladies.
The age profile is predominantly over 60.
We run the following league teams;
Worth Valley Vets (over 60) League
A, B and C teams, six person teams, every Monday April to September
Worth Valley Saturday League
A team, eight person team, April to September
Skipton and District League
A, B (both 10 person) and C (8 person) teams, usually playing two evenings a week, April to end August
In addition, Silsden Ladies use our green every other Tuesday from April to September in the Yorkshire Parks Bowling Association (Ladies Section)
In September and October we enter a team in the Skipton and District Floodlit League.
As our green is considered difficult and of high quality it is in demand for Cup competitions and knock-out tournaments through the season.
Social Bowls
Over the past three years our Afternoon Friendlies section has grown considerably. We now have 34 active players and play 30 fixtures against local teams (16 person teams).
The green is also used most weekday afternoons by social bowlers.
Objectives
As well as maintaining all the above teams, we try to expand our membership. This has been successful among the over 60’s, with our afternoon friendlies group growing from 14 to 34 over the last three years. There is also a progression from our social bowls into competitive bowls for those who want it. We are one of the few clubs to run a ‘C’ team in Skipton and District. This is ideal for those of us who don’t want the serious competition of higher league bowls any more, and also a route into competition for new bowlers. Wish that we were more successful with the younger age group. We will keep trying and find some more initiatives.
